Seven cities of gold was originally released in 1984 for the C64 and Apple II computers, breaking grounds with a complex strategy engine for its time. Nearly ten years later, this version of the game upgrades it to VGA graphics and Sound Blaster music and sounds, giving it a fresh new feel and a new chance for you to find the legendary cities of gold.

Here you'll take the role of Cristóbal Colón himself on his quest for the Indies, which would actually lead him to discover America and start its colonization by the europeans. Columbus died convinced that he in fact explored the east coast of Asia, but the discovery of the New World was probably a much more important deed.

Anyway, commissioned by the Crown of Spain, you set sail westwards, and start exploring that new land. You soon encounter the first indians and it is up to you to produce profit in the expedition, be it by trade or force.

Although comparable to Colonization, Seven cities of gold (7COG) focuses more on exploration, trading and diplomacy, rather than on settling and management. Your final goal is to find the seven cities of gold, places full of riches that you vowed to take back to Spain.

The game features decent graphics and sounds, and although the interactions with the Indians are generally a bit too obvious to figure out, the historical New World was well mapped, and the random map poses a good challenge to anyone even replaying the game.

7COG passed the test of time, and retains its fun factor, no matter if you play this commemorative edition or the classic from 1984. All strategists, get this one!
