All hail to the undisputed best Windows 3.x game ever created! If you never played this jewel, check if you got plenty of time before downloading it, because its addictiveness, pace and great graphics and sounds will keep you busy until dawn.

First off, this game is unbelievably uncomparable to other old Windows games. While there were some fun games for Windows 3.x, they all had one or more of the following flaws: amateur graphics, bad effects or none at all, bad sounds or none at all, short length, boring repetitiveness, no replayability, childish premise, and others. But Inner Space is totally different.

The premise is just too unique. "Evil" forces (viruses, space aliens, the "demon" or whatever) have invaded... your computer. Yes, they invaded *your hard disk* (or some other drive you choose). Now you have to get inside in some stylish space ship and restore order in your computer's inner space. They just don't do games like this anymore!

Wait, there's more. Once you're in, you're part of one of the "space gangs" that inhabit the inner space, and they relate to each other with alliances or downright violence. In all missions you will have to capture your computer applications, which are scattered all over the inner space, and try not to let the others capture them. Basically it's a top-down space ship shooter, just so you get the picture.

This game also features lots of powerups and many kinds of special weapons, which you can buy by typing "H" and waiting for the "ambulance" to catch you, where you get to fix your ship and spend the icons you capture.

Graphics and sounds: simply ahead of its time, considering the operational system. Windows had never seen nothing like that when Inner Space came, and would only see anything similar from Windows 95 on.

Then the game throws in a few surprises. The inner space has its laws, and transgressors are quickly brought to justice -- that is, if the Enforcers gang gets to catch them. Also, the game has a few unique mini-games you play for a change: some missions you'll win by racing against other ships. There's an arena where you can get an opponent and do whatever you want without the Enforcers interference. There's even a big bad ugly final boss to defeat.

Since the game world is created according to the files originally found in the drive you chose to play in the beginning, no two games are alike. The concept of capturing files you'll actually recognize from your own computer folders add a bit to the fun factor of the game, and the dynamic game world add much to the replayability.

All in all, Operation: Inner Space is quite a simple game to play, without tons of options and techniques to learn. But it was an inspired attempt that today still remains unique and replayable.
