I'm not the biggest fan of the educational genre, still, here's a game that kept me busy for many dozens of hours in the past. This is the worthy remake of a classic from the 80s that is both challenging, entertaining and informative.
The "Where in the xx is Carmen Sandiego?" franchise was greatly expanded in the 90s with remakes of all titles and even re-remakes of some of them. No wonder, after all, they featured a simple yet effective sleuthing engine, bug-free environment and a high challenge for edutainment standards.
Of these games, Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego? is by far my favorite. The others are still good, but demand a focused knowledge in a certain field of geography and history, specially the titles based in the USA.
The story is always the same: you're a detective, and you're assigned to chase criminals from Carmen Sandiego's band whenever they steal some incredibly valuable treasure from some famous landmark of the world. You start whenever the theft took place, and from there, you have a limited amount of time to collect clues to identify the thief and find his or her hideout.
Graphics and sounds are very simple in this game, but it is highly replayable, as the randomly-generated crimes, clues and itineraries are diverse and generally intriguing enough to keep you interested for quite some time.
This is maybe the best educational game franchise of all times, so it might as well be worth a look you know?
