Innovative, challenging, fast-paced, fun. It's the best you'd expect from an action game, and here you got it.

Abuse added a feature that was hardly ever copied in side-scrolling shooters: mouse-aiming. The difference it would make in games like the earlier 2D Duke Nukems, Mega mans and hundreds of others is simply unthinkable! Aliens jump on you out of nowhere and it's only possible to fight back because of mouse-aiming. That made it possible to develop a game in which the enemies are a lot faster and unpredictable, which would get frustratingly difficult to play otherwise, but instead added tons to the pace of this jewel.

The story is as random and clichéd as possible, but suffice to say that you're the only human being in some highly technological facility in ruins filled with hungry aliens left and right, and there's plenty of guns and ammo scattered over the place. If anything moves, shoot to kill and it's all gonna be alright.

Graphics are just great. The shadows hide all sorts of montrosities and there are lots of interesting effects from weapons, teleporting pods and more. Sound effects are convincing, reasonable.

Abuse is a difficult game. The pace of the aliens really makes it hard to survive here, but the challenge factor is adjustable and there are saving spots on every section of the facility. There's a lot to fear, but nothing that can't be handled.

Finally, it's sad to know that the developers of this great game went bankrupt while trying to complete their second game. Abuse did grant them considerable sums of money to start new projects, but they unfortunately spent too much time still deciding what should be their next step. Slow decisions certainly allied with reckless management made Crack Dot Com close its doors before releasing a second title, a shame! At least we still have Abuse to remember them well.
