Here's a title that I can't understand how none of the modern softwarehouses try to revive with a modern 3D roleplaying version. That's because I hardly ever heard of anyone who played this game, which carries nothing less than the title and the atmosphere of one of the greatest sci-fi novels of all time, William Gibson's Neuromancer. *This* would be worth playing, because of its real novel plot and remarkable in-depth. Instead nowadays they keep wasting our time with over-hyped games we already played that sound exactly like all the others made from 2000 to now. Ah, some have "game of the year edition" in their names, some achievement. That's why we keep playing the games of old.
Now look at this game. Its color pallette is nearly older than myself, but it doesn't matter. The game still makes you feel like you're inside Gibson's incredibly realistic and convincing fictional future, thanks mostly to dialogs and situations inspired on the book. You're a cyberspace cowboy, a criminal, a suicidal, an anti-hero. If you didn't read this book, stop whatever you're doing now and get a copy. No need to thank me, thank William.
A pity this game was made back in the 80's, when games were still a lot simpler than, say, in the 90's. The game lacks the feel of the bustling cities the book tells you of. At first you'll feel a little lost. There are few places to go and see, but soon you'll find lots of things to be done. Also, it takes time to absorb all the information in the game, and you should take notes of everything. Finally, the game features point and click interface, but be sure to read the documentation in the package, it brings plenty of useful information about shortcuts and such. As many say, the high point in the game is the hacking of systems and databases, disabling ICEs and so on. The Matrix 'feel' here matches the description in the book, which is even more satisfying.
If you're a cyberpunk fan, be sure to take a look on this one, specially because you won't find any good cyberpunk games made nowadays.
