One of the most original and famous series ever made started here. Following the trend started by King's quest, back in 1987 Sierra released Leisure Suit Larry along with Police quest using the same adventure engine that would evolve into the traditional point and click we have today.
The plot is almost too funny to be believed. You're Larry Laffer, certified loser, and your mission seems to be to score with as many females as possible. Believe me, there are quite a few, but it's a looong way...
Ok, there is a plot behind the character Larry (sort of). The game documentation tells the loser's story, from his creation to puberty, adulthood, now his second puberty... if poor Larry has a hard time getting laid, no one better than an expert like you to help him out!
From the very beginning of the game, you'll feel you have little purpose other than moving around picking up items, buying items, exchanging items with other people, because you have no real mission. You start out in front of Lefty's, some bar. You don't know anybody. You don't know exactly where to go or what to do, and that's disturbing. Still, the game is packed up with acid humor and really funny situations and solutions to puzzles. The interface is simple, but some may not be used to it nowadays: you move around with the arrow keys, and type your commands to let Larry act accordingly. So, if you want a glass of scotch, you move to the bar, type "sit" to sit down and then "whisky" to buy it from Lefty. Once you're used to that, the game runs quite easily.
To date, Larry in the land of the lounge lizards is around 20 years-old, and is still a great game for a laugh. If you never played it, give it a try and you won't regret it, as well as most other titles in the series.
