Larry 2 is one of those sequels where the designers make only the right choices: they improve the engine and graphics while keeping the excellent writing, the cool features and interesting references from the previous title. It feels a lot like Larry 1, picking up exactly where the story left, only with much better graphics, better functionalities, AdLib sounds, and a "bigger" plot.
Eve, the girl from the end of the first game promptly kicks you out of her life right in the beginning here. Our sensitive Larry then goes back to the streets, looking for a new love, but as usual, only gets in trouble.
The graphics and sounds were great for its time, and even today I have nothing to complain about them. The playability was improved with the addition of mouse interface to move Larry around, but I still prefer to use the keyboard here, since you need to be typing commands in anyway. The only technical flaw I can think of in Larry 2 is that its parser is slightly stupid sometimes -- you need to guess the verbs and nouns it wants to hear, and it won't give you many clues to help, like in Zork for example. Anyway, it is still perfectly enjoyable, and it gets easier the more you get used to it.
A worthy evolution from an already good game, that's what Larry 2 is all about.
