Jack T. Ladd is back! Still funny, still cunning, still a disaster with the ladies! Whoever played Innocent until caught will be at home with this fun sequel.
For those who didn't play IUC, both games are set in a "light" sci-fi setting, nothing too cyberpunk, it's more like Star Trek with no killing and a lot of humor. Ladd is a self-confident intergalactic thief that's rather used to being in big trouble, that's the whole point.
Up front you'll notice the first innovation of Guilty: after watching the intro sequence, you choose to play with Jack, imprisoned in a star ship, or with Ysanne Andropath, the hot redhead cop that arrested him. Each one has different objectives and situations to deal with in most of the game, even if in the exact same places, so it's really two games in one!
Interface is still smart and easy to use. Placing the mouse on any clickable object brings up its name, and the actions related to it on the menu start to move, telling you can use or pick or talk or whatever. Graphics are still smooth, sounds too.
You can't die in this game, but the puzzles are interesting, and many involve not only combining objects, but also telling other characters what to do. This is actually fun -- while it's annoying in many other games, where it was badly executed. The dialogs are not the work a genius, but can be fun too: Jack seems to want to make Ysanne's life a living hell, while she hates him to the bottom of her heart in return, so the fact that they are trapped together makes up for some laughing. The plot of the game actually unfolds only after an hour of play or so.
If you liked IUC, it's very likely that you'll Guilty. If you never played the prequel, I suggest you give it a try before playing Guilty because... well, it makes no difference really. Yeah, get both and have fun in any order. :)
